From tiny seeds, great forests can bloom. The Baptist Healing Trust (aka Baptist Healing Hospital Trust) grew from seeds planted across the long tradition of loving care at Baptist Hospital (founded in 1918). Charitable health care is grounded on the belief that the provision of medical care must grow from the garden of love. Because we are all clay touched by God, care must be loving in order to be truly healing.
In 2001, the President of Baptist Hospital announced the concept of the Healing Hospital. It is grounded in the teachings of Christ as expressed in the Sermon on the Mount that love must be expressed in a continuous chain of light from each caregiver to every patient. In January 2002, the Baptist Healing Trust was funded with a portion of the proceeds of the sale of the Baptist Hospital System to Ascension Health Systems of St. Louis, Mo. Those charged with responsibility for these funds are committed to distribute them in a way consistent with our mission/vision statement.
