In response to the economic climate, the Trust will be offering a new grant category in 2009. The Trust will consider organizational funding when a critical need arises.  These grants will be considered on an as needed basis, and funds will be directed on an organizational level rather than a program level. Please note that critical needs grants will not be used to fund capital campaigns.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  1. Organizational mission is congruent with the Trust’s mission.
  2. Agency has a current or previous funding relationship with the Trust.
  3. Agency demonstrates providing critical, unduplicated services to the community.
  4. Agency has a history of service in the Middle Tennessee community.
  5. Agency has a plan for long term financial viability.
  6. Request is time sensitive.

Applicants will apply through the Trust’s secure online application process, which includes submitting a preliminary application and a full proposal. Please read through the following steps to learn how to complete the process. Please note: this process is slightly different than the other grant categories the Trust offers.

Step 1: Contact the program staff to inform the Trust that you will be submitting an application and ensure that the agency profile is updated on Givingmatters.com.
Step 2: Complete a preliminary application. This includes:

  1. Organization and Contact Information
  2. A Description of Need
  3. Explanation of How the Funds Would Be Utilized
  4. Time Sensitivity of the Request

Step 3: The program staff will follow up with the applicant regarding any questions and may request a site visit or a meeting with the staff. Upon completion, the staff will generate a full proposal application.
Step 4: Complete the Full Proposal and include attachments. This comprises:
  1. An Executive Summary including a description of the agency’s history of service to the community
  2. A Needs Assessment detailing community need and assessment of the services offered by the agency (are these services duplicated by other agencies?)
  3. Financial Information including how the funds would be utilized and how this critical need arose for the agency
  4. Organizational Sustainability including a plan for long term financial viability and other funding sources
Attachments Include:
  1. Organization Chart
  2. Current Financial Statements (Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet)
  3. Board of Directors Contact Information Form (download)
  4. Letter of Support from Agency’s Board Chair

Applications will be reviewed on a timely basis by an ad-hoc committee of the Board of Trust. Applicants will be notified as soon as a decision is made.
