In response to the economic climate, the Trust will be offering a new grant category in 2009. The Trust will consider organizational funding when a critical need arises. These grants will be considered on an as needed basis, and funds will be directed on an organizational level rather than a program level. Please note that critical needs grants will not be used to fund capital campaigns.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Organizational mission is congruent with the Trust’s mission.
- Agency has a current or previous funding relationship with the Trust.
- Agency demonstrates providing critical, unduplicated services to the community.
- Agency has a history of service in the Middle Tennessee community.
- Agency has a plan for long term financial viability.
- Request is time sensitive.
Applicants will apply through the Trust’s secure online application process, which includes submitting a preliminary application and a full proposal. Please read through the following steps to learn how to complete the process. Please note: this process is slightly different than the other grant categories the Trust offers.
Step 1: Contact the program staff to inform the Trust that you will be submitting an application and ensure that the agency profile is updated on Givingmatters.com.
Step 2: Complete a preliminary application. This includes:
- Organization and Contact Information
- A Description of Need
- Explanation of How the Funds Would Be Utilized
- Time Sensitivity of the Request
Step 3: The program staff will follow up with the applicant regarding any questions and may request a site visit or a meeting with the staff. Upon completion, the staff will generate a full proposal application.
Step 4: Complete the Full Proposal and include attachments. This comprises:
- An Executive Summary including a description of the agency’s history of service to the community
- A Needs Assessment detailing community need and assessment of the services offered by the agency (are these services duplicated by other agencies?)
- Financial Information including how the funds would be utilized and how this critical need arose for the agency
- Organizational Sustainability including a plan for long term financial viability and other funding sources
Attachments Include:
- Organization Chart
- Current Financial Statements (Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet)
- Board of Directors Contact Information Form (download)

Applications will be reviewed on a timely basis by an ad-hoc committee of the Board of Trust. Applicants will be notified as soon as a decision is made.
