Grant Programs

The Baptist Healing Trust seeks to promote a culture of compassionate care in non-profit organizations that benefit the health of vulnerable individuals throughout Middle Tennessee. In addition to its own programmatic initiatives, the Baptist Healing Trust supports organizations, through grant making, that offer a holistic and compassionate approach to healthcare.

All Grant Applicants are required to have recently (in 2010 or 2011) attended a Technical Assistance Workshop to be eligible to submit a Proposal.

The Trust currently employs multiple grant making programs for health related charities in the Middle Tennessee area. In light of the current economic situation, for 2011, the Trust is focusing on assisting our non-profit partners with sustaining essential health programs in the Middle Tennessee community and growing vital health programs that where rising need is documented. Agencies may apply for funding in more than one category:

  • Transom Grants - for specific projects or programs, which include clear objectives and measurable health outcomes. In 2011, transom grants will be focused on sustaining ongoing programs and expanding programs where there is high community need.
  • Critical Needs Grants the Trust will consider organizational funding (not for capital funds) when a critical need arises. These grants will be considered on an as needed basis and will be directed on an organizational level rather than a program level. Applicants should meet the following criteria: 1) Organizational mission is congruent with the Trust's mission. 2) Agency has a current or previous funding relationship with the Trust. 3) Agency demonstrates providing critical, unduplicated services to the community. 4) Agency has a history of service in the Middle Tennessee community. 5) Agency has a plan for long term financial viability. 6) Request is time sensitive.
  • Baptist Healing Trust Partnership Grants - to provide the extra funds necessary to support and enhance compassionate care through funds and in-kind services relating to leadership training, staff development and consulting. BHT Partners receive funds for the expenses associated with undertaking transformational change.
  • Impacting Education Grants - for specific programs or courses, which impact medical or other health professionals during their education. The Trust seeks to encourage educational institutions to introduce a course or program advocating a compassionate care model.

Grant proposals are accepted and reviewed in the spring and fall with the spring full proposal deadline falling in March and the fall full proposal deadline being in late August/ early September. Awards are extended on an annual basis. Grants are only made to non-profit organizations in Middle Tennessee qualifying under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code. All grant proposals should display and emphasize respect for the dignity of all persons. Programs submitted should be consistent with the principles espoused by the mission and core values of the Baptist Healing Trust. The Trust advocates:

  • Caring with a servant's heart
  • Healing for the mind, body and spirit
  • Loving with respect and without reservation
  • Creating cultures of mindfulness, wisdom, justice and peace
  • Supporting sacred work
  • Inclusiveness

The Trust's Board of Trust allocates funds for both programmatic and grant-making initiatives. An annual allocation process determines the amount of funds available for grant making.
