Belmont University's School of Occupational Therapy, established in 1995) has expanded their academic curriculum to incorporate a 16 week (640 hours) residency requirement to help prepare entry level doctoral occupational therapy (OTD) students to meet the growing demands of healthcare and wellness during this emerging time of health care reform.  This grant will support the special projects to be completed by the OTD residents that they hope will lead to changes in professional values and attitudes.  Residency Coordinator will interview   48% (12/26) of expert mentors regarding resident's progress in compassionate and loving care.  Resident will reflect how compassionate and loving care influenced their residency (electronic submission of final e-portfolio and formal presentation to faculty, OTD students, and community at large) 22/26.  Grant administrator and residency coordinator will assess qualitative data for development of compassion and caring values at time of admission (student's application essay); prior to fieldwork II (personal career vision); and end of residency (reflection statement).
