Established in 1999, BrightStone provides a comprehensive work, social support, and future residential community for adults with special needs, expanding their potential and helping them develop mentally, physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.   This grant will support the Health and Wellness program through partial funds to support a nurse on staff and consultation from a Physical Therapist and a Recreational therapist. Given opportunity to participate in a variety of leisure, sports and physically motivating activities, 18 of 28 (64%) BrightStone adults who participate will increase their time spent in a physical activity to help them live a healthier, more fulfilling life.  After participation in an exercise program, 15 of 28 (54%) BrightStone adults who participate will demonstrate improvement in strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance which research has shown will help them maintain fitness for daily living, reduce functional limitations, and prevent, delay and reduce chronic illnesses and secondary conditions.
