Brightstone
Established in 1999, BrightStone provides a comprehensive work, social support, and future residential community for adults with special needs, expanding their potential and helping them develop mentally, physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. BrightStone provides training in meaningful job skills, productive work habits and daily life skills. BrightStone also offers classes in functional academics, cooking and nutrition, music, basic computer skills and physical wellness, as well as provides opportunities for community involvement. The grant requested will be used to fund the increased hours of an on-site nurse to provide medical oversight involving medication administration, first aid and triage, personal safety, education, and training. Under the direction of physical therapist, 29 out of 35 (83%) BrightStone adults will complete individual exercise plans throughout the year showing a 5% increase in at least two of the following areas: range of motion, strength, and endurance as determined by PT baseline measures. Given an individualized exercise plan, 20 out of 27 (74%) BrightStone adults who are identified as having "heightened" fall risk will decrease center falls by 25% within one year based on 2011 center fall rate as determined by PT.
