Brown Center for Autism
The Brown Center's mission is to help realize the potential of young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders through individualized and collaborative treatment, and parent education and participation. The grant requested in this application will be used to fund the partial salary of a licensed psychologist with unique expertise in counseling families of young children with autism. During the funding period, this psychologist will provide 24 therapeutic counseling sessions in a manner consistent with BHT loving care values to each enrolled family. After 6 months, 80% of families (16 of 20) receiving counseling will demonstrate a measurable and meaningful reduction in two to four symptoms related to the stress of parenting a child with autism as assessed by the Parenting Stress Index (PSI). After 12 months, 80% of children (16 of 20) of parent(s) receiving counseling will demonstrate a measurable and meaningful increase in four or more domains of the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS-R).
