Established in 1997, CWJC creates the potential for transformation of body, mind, heart, and spirit in the working poor and the Christian community. It equips individuals with life and employment skills, in an environment where volunteers serve as teachers, tutors, mentors and childcare providers. This grant will fund mental health case management and mentoring at our three sites for 80 students. 43 out of 65 (66%) will retake Self-Sufficiency with 25 increasing score, 56 out of 80 (70%) retake Burns Anxiety Inventory and Burns Depression Inventory annually. 56 out of 70 (80%) will remain in the program and meet weekly with mentor. Graduates and research (Ruby Paine poverty model) show building relationship with someone from a higher socioeconomic level assists in breaking the cycle of poverty. Healthy relationships (true friendships) and a community of support improve mental health and are important for a self-sufficient life.
