The Exchange Club/Stephens Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse
The Exchange Club/Holland J. Stephens Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse is a non-profit 501(c)3 agency established in 1988 serving Putnam, Overton, Cumberland, Jackson, & White Counties. Licensed by the TN Dept. of Children's Services as a child abuse prevention center, the mission is to identify families with children (prenatal through age 12) at-risk of child abuse & neglect and to prevent the abuse through appropriate in-home visitation, group parenting, or community education program. The grant requested in this application will be used to fund a portion of the annual salary & benefits for staff positions and to help fund travel necessary for home-visits for the year. Of the parents successfully completing at least 12 weekly home-visits, 85% (144 of 169) will demonstrate (A) a statistically significant decrease in level of risk for child abuse/neglect on the AAPI (B) a statistically significant increase in knowledge and use of positive parenting skills by a decrease on the Triple P Parenting Scale measuring dysfunctional parenting styles (C) a statistically significant increase in Protective Factors as measured by the Five Protective Factors survey (D) that abuse/neglect has been prevented by a positive follow-up contact showing no incidents of abuse or neglect at 1-yr after ending participation in the Friends for Families program.
