 LEAD Academy began its first classes in 2007. Today, LEAD Public Schools serves nearly 1,000 students in grades 5 through 11. LPS, Inc., a charter management organization, operates LEAD Academy, Cameron College Prep (Tennessee's first conversion charter school), and Brick Church College Prep. Its mission is to do "Whatever it Takes" to educate, train and support the next generation of responsible citizens and prepare them for acceptance to a 4-year college.  The grant requested in this application will be used to fund one additional full-time Counselor at Brick Church College Prep. This grant will cover salary, technology, and training materials.   181 out of 202 (90%) of students participating in ongoing, weekly counseling will show at least a 50% month-over-month decrease in absences over the course of a semester (a 5-month period). 161 out of 202 (80%) of students who complete a school year of weekly one-hour counseling sessions will demonstrate improved social coping skills and exhibit positive self-esteem as measured by weekly qualitative student/parent/counselor meetings sharing student progress, teacher observation and the student's own personal inventory assessment.
