Established in 1876, Meharry Medical College has had a history of caring for the health needs and proving access to healthcare education for the underserved.  Meharry exists to improve the health and health care of minority and underserved communities.  It is the largest private historically black institution dedicated to educating health care professionals and biomedical scientists in the United States.  This grant will support a portion of the Program Manager, Nutrition/Fitness Specialist, and Nurse Practitioner in salaries and benefits, along with related materials for a comprehensive health and lifestyle program that targets obese adolescent African-American females.  42 out of 60 (70%) active participants will demonstrate improved nutrition knowledge and improvement in dietary behavior or choices.  36 out of 60 (60%) active participants will demonstrate increased physical activity and fitness improvement.  30 out of 60 (50%) active participants will attain weight stabilization or weight loss.
