The mission of Mending Hearts is to provide shelter, hope, and healing to women who desire sustainable recovery from addiction and homelessness. Co-founded six years ago by two women who have walked in the shoes of those they now serve, Mending Hearts testifies to its founders' faith that women who have lost everything to their addiction can begin again. This grant will provide funding to pay the salary of the Licensed Professional Counselor for the new Residential Treatment Program for Co-Occurring Disorders. Upon completion of treatment (30-90 days), 80 of 100 or 80% of women will show improvements in mental health status as measured by pre- and post-treatment report of key symptoms in the Addiction Severity Index and DSM-IV clinical interview.  60 of 100 or 60% of women in the co-occurring disorders program will not re-offend within 6 months of program completion.  70 or 70% of 100 women will be employed, have a legal means of support (e.g. disability), or be enrolled in technical or higher education program 6 months after program completion.  56 or 56% of 100 women report being drug and alcohol free with two relapses or less 6 months after program completion.
