NPT was founded in 1962 and provides local and national public television programs and outreach to all citizens free of charge. Through electronic media, NPT engages audiences of all ages with stimulating cultural, civic and entertainment experiences that educate.  This grant will fund a portion of the expense related to filming the next two documentaries in a seven part series about the Children’s Health Crisis in Tennessee.  The first two documentaries have focused on an overview of children’s health issues, and then the second documentary, airing on June 24, is focused on the infant mortality issues. Over 75,000 viewers will view the third and fourth documentaries, gaining a greater understanding of the issues involved in the poor state of children's health in Tennessee.   A minimum of 8,000 website visitors will view content related to the project, becoming aware of the barriers to raising healthy children in Tennessee. They will receive further support through website resources to steer children toward well being.  Over one year, 325,000 parents and children will view daytime health spots gaining greater awareness of the crisis, while gaining knowledge about ways they can lead healthier lives.  700,000 adults will see Children's Health update spots and will become better informed about the health problems facing children and ways they can take action to improve the situation.  Of 300 outreach participants, 250 will take pre and post event surveys, demonstrating greater knowledge about health issues and steps that can be taken on an individual level to improve health.  60% of those comments received by NPT after a documentary airing will demonstrate greater awareness of health issues facing children in Tennessee.
