Established in 1978, Prevent Blindness Tennessee (PBT) is a voluntary eye health organization dedicated to preventing blindness and preserving sight across the state of Tennessee through vision screenings, public and professional education, community services, programs, referrals, information, and research.  PBT provides free vision screenings and referrals for children and seniors in underserved communities to receive needed vision care.  This grant will fund a portion of an outreach coordinator position, travel and supplies in the Senior Sight Outreach/Operation DRIP program.   Out of 1300 adults screened 520 (40%) will receive a referral to get an eye exam from an eye doctor. Referrals are based on a vision screening indicating a potential problem or if the client has not seen an eye doctor in more than 2 years. 780 (60%) patients screened will not show signs of retinopathy or other eye problems and will become informed about the current status of their eye health.   Out of 520 patients referred approximately 300 (57%) will meet the requirements to receive and eye exam and/or follow-up care through our program. Out of 300 patients referred 240 (80%) will receive follow-up care for vision acuity, glaucoma, or cataract and/or assistance with getting eyeglasses. 50 (20%) patients will receive follow-up care for diabetic retinopathy.
