Special Kids provides out-patient pediatric therapy including speech, occupational, physical, and recreation therapy as well as skilled nursing and social services for children with special needs. Its mission is to serve Jesus Christ by caring for His children. The grant requested in this application will be used to fund 44% of salary expenses for 2013 Camp Ability and Camp Ability Plus including 1 Camp Director, 1 Camp Director's Assistant, 21 Camp Counselors, 1 Nurse, 1 Art Specialist, and 1 Music Specialist.  (75%) 46 out of 62 children with special needs ages 6-25 will demonstrate improvements in three key developmental areas (below) that will better equip them for daily interactions at home, school and in social settings. Improvements will be measured using a pre/post evaluation completed by our staff as well as parent evaluations:

1) Socialization skills: campers experience success in developing positive relationships and participating in group activities thus becoming more effective in connecting with their peers. 2) Self Esteem: campers attempt new activities resulting in a sense of accomplishment thus learning to assert themselves in situations where they are not as comfortable. 3) Body Awareness: campers improve motor skills, coordination and strength through therapeutic activities thus improving overall physical well-being.
