The Tennessee Justice Center, established in 1995, is a non-profit, public interest law and advocacy firm serving the poor. It gives priority to policy issues and civil cases in which the most basic necessities of life are at stake, and where its advocacy can benefit families statewide. In 2009, TJC served more than 350 individual clients, and more than 1 million through class action litigation.  This grant will support a portion of the salary and benefits for LEASE employees. Of the 65 LEASE cases, 65% will be resolved by TJC.  Of these 42 cases, (32 of 42) 75% will receive needed health/ mental health care and/ or gain enrollment in TennCare.  For all 65 clients, when appeals are appropriate, 90% of the time an appeal will be filed, often leading to provision of needed health care.  Within 12 months of training, 5 of a 10-participant sample (50%) will have applied their knowledge to help children receive needed health care.
