Tennessee Kidney Foundation
The mission of the Tennessee Kidney Foundation is to improve the health and well-being of Tennesseans affected by kidney disease through education, prevention, treatment, advocacy and promotion of organ donation. In December 1969, a small group of physicians, businessmen, patients and their family members held the first meeting of the Nashville Chapter of the Tennessee Kidney Foundation. In November 1972, the Nashville chapter of the TKF received an affiliate charter from the National Kidney Foundation becoming the NKF of Middle Tennessee. Effective December 31, 2009, the NKF of Middle Tennessee was merged into the Tennessee Kidney Foundation. The grant requested in this application will be used to fund transportation/medication needs of low income patients in designated Middle Tennessee Counties and other related costs. Generally when they offer transportation/medication assistance, they find that medications account for 3% of the request from patients while 97% of the patients are requesting help with their transportation issues. 144 of the 252 patients (57%) helped with transportation issues each month would have attended all of their treatments for the past month.
