Grant Workshops

Grant Workshops for the spring 2012 cycle have concluded, please check back in early June to see the listing of summer 2012 workshops to prepare for the fall 2012 cycle.

All workshops will be held at the Center for Nonprofit Management  in Nashville. Due to space limitations, BHT must limit participation to no more than two people per agency for the workshop series. Registrations are accepted on a first come first serve basis until the workshop is full.

INTRODUCTION TO BHT and PROPOSAL WRITING BASICS

Introduction to BHT and Proposal Writing Basics will be held on January 12, 2012 from 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM. This introduction workshop is required for all new applicants and strongly suggested for those applicants who have a new grant writer.

As this session is mandatory for new applicants, should it need to be cancelled for inclement weather, mark your calendars for the Snow Date of Monday, January 23, 2012 from 9:30 – 3:30 PM.

This workshop will cover the history and mission of BHT, the Foundation’s funding process, the types of grants funded by BHT and tools for writing a successful proposal to BHT. This workshop will concurrently cover Transom, Education and Partnership (program) grants. The morning portion will focus on general information about the Foundation and its grant making process and criteria.   BHT will provide lunch. The afternoon portion of the workshop will be focused on the elements of the program grant application as well as tips and tools for crafting a successful proposal. Please note that as this session is mandatory for new applicants, registration preference will be given to new applicants. Former applicants can also consider registering for the Technical Assistance Training instead of this training.

If you are attending the Introduction Workshop on January 12, 2012 and have a dietary restriction, please contact BHT at 615-284-8271 and speak with Jennifer Oldham about your dietary needs.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TRAINING

This training, held on Tuesday, January 17 from 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM, is strongly suggested for those who have applied to the Trust before but may need extra assistance in writing their Transom, Education or Partnership grant application to BHT. This training is open to all potential applicants. Please note that those applicants who register for the Introduction workshop do not need to also attend the Technical Assistance Training.

This class will not discuss basic information about the Foundation. Instead, BHT staff will delve into the creating workable program budgets and preparing financial statements as tools for writing a successful proposal. Participants will be coached on writing compelling application narratives that clearly articulate the mission, impact, outcomes, partnerships, and fiscal solvency of their organization, as well as demonstrate community need with realistic goals and workable budgets.  In addition to narrative coaching, participants also learn about the critical role of supporting documents in demonstrating organizational capacity and leadership.

FOUNDATION UPDATES and Q&A SESSION

This session, held on Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 1:30 – 3:30 PM, is recommended for those grantees that have been successfully funded by BHT and have a strong understanding of the Foundation and its grant making process. In this session, BHT staff will cover happenings at BHT including the opening of the Operating Grant program to current grantees who meet the eligibility criteria and BHT Awards for Access to Care and Compassionate Care.   Ample time will exist at the end of the session for questions and answers with the BHT staff.
