The Baptist Healing Trust seeks to promote a culture of loving care in non-profit organizations that benefit the health of individuals throughout Middle Tennessee. In addition to its own programmatic initiatives, the Baptist Healing Trust supports organizations, through grant making, that offer a holistic and loving approach to healthcare. The Trust has two main objectives through its grant-making:
- to increase the access of underprivileged populations to appropriate and affordable healthcare
- to support and enhance the success of the non-profit organizations it funds by offering funding and consulting to organizations to promote cultures centered on loving care.
The Trust currently employs three grant making programs for health related charities in the Middle Tennessee area:
- Transom Grants - for specific projects or programs, which include clear objectives, timeframes and measurable outcomes. Grants are typically awarded to program expansions or new programmatic initiatives.
- Baptist Healing Trust Partnership Grants - to provide the extra support necessary to apply the principles of radical loving care through funds and in-kind services relating to capacity building, leadership training and consulting. BHT Partners receive funds for the expenses associated with undertaking transformational change. (read more about loving care…)
- Impacting Education Grants - for specific programs or courses, which impact medical or other health professionals during their education. The Trust seeks to encourage educational institutions to introduce a course or program advocating a loving care model of leadership and culture, or a similar program addressing spirituality and compassionate care. SPRING GRANT DEADLINE

|
Applicants for the fall cycle should expect to be notified of the Board of Trust’s decision no later than January 15, 2008.
Grant proposals are accepted and reviewed in the spring and fall with the spring deadline falling in late February and the fall deadline being in late August. Awards are extended on an annual basis. Grants are only made to non-profit organizations in Middle Tennessee qualifying under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code.
All grant proposals should display and emphasize respect for the dignity of all persons. Programs submitted should be consistent with the principles espoused by the mission and core values of the Baptist Healing Trust. The Trust advocates:
- Caring with a servant’s heart
- Healing for the mind, body and spirit
- Loving with respect and without reservation
- Creating cultures of mindfulness, wisdom, justice and peace
- Supporting sacred work
- Inclusiveness
Statement of Inclusiveness: The mission of the Baptist Healing Trust is to be a caring ministry devoted to healing with love in the Christian tradition. Through our grant making programs, the Trust aims to increase access to quality, loving healthcare for vulnerable populations across Middle Tennessee. The Trustˇ¦s grant making policies reflect the belief that organizational performance is greatly enhanced when people with different backgrounds and perspectives are engaged in an organizationˇ¦s activities and decision-making process. Thus, the Trust actively seeks to promote access, equity and inclusiveness, and to discourage discrimination based on race, creed, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and other factors that deny the essential humanity of all people. This principle is a lens through which all of the work of the Trust is viewed.
The trust is unlikely to support proposals for:
- Grants directed toward the operational and administrative activities of an organization
- Grants for the construction or renovation of building facilities
- Grants to individuals and fraternal organizations
- Grants to other grant-making organizations
- Grants to support partisan politics, political lobbying, or electoral campaigns
- Grants to single disease, research-oriented organizations
The Trust’s Board of Trust allocates funds for both programmatic and grant-making initiatives. An annual allocation process determines the amount of funds available for grant making.
Programs of the Baptist Healing Trust include Caring for the Caregiver (Meaning in Medicine), the Radical Loving Care initiative, the Sacred Work Awards and collaboration with the Southeastern Council of Foundation’s Health Legacy Foundations. (read more about programs…)
