Family and Children’s Service

Founded in 1943, Family & Children’s Service (FCS) serves all people in crisis and transition by meeting them where they are, understanding their needs, and providing them with the resources they need. The mission of Family & Children’s Service is to connect individuals and families to hope, to healing, and to one another. FCS often ‘fills in the gaps’ in social services, creating a safety net to ensure that all children and families can be safe, healthy, and connected. Each year we provide direct services to more than 6,000 clients, and phone-based crisis and referral services to another 200,000 Tennesseans. The grant requested in this application will be used to fund healthcare navigation services (provided by knowledgeable, skilled counselors), connecting uninsured/underinsured Middle Tennesseans with affordable health insurance and/or medical care. Funding also will be used to increase community awareness of these services and to train local service providers in healthcare navigation techniques. The agency expects to achieve the following outcomes: 2,400 of 2,400 or 100% of healthcare navigation clients will be screened for health insurance eligibility. 950 of 1,060 or 90% of health insurance eligible clients will enroll in health insurance, improving their access to healthcare services.
