Nashville CARES

Founded in 1985, Nashville CARES is Tennessee’s largest HIV/AIDS agency, serving seventeen counties in Middle Tennessee. Its mission is to promote and participate in a comprehensive and compassionate response to HIV/AIDS through education to prevent HIV transmission, advocacy for responsible public policy, and services that improve the quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and their families. In addition to services in Middle Tennessee, the agency manages four statewide initiatives, including an Insurance Assistance Program that provides financial assistance for health insurance premiums and co-payments to more than 1,700 PLWHA. The agency’s outcomes for the year include providing medical case management services to 1,600 PLWHA with 70% stabilizing, maintaining, or improving their health, health benefits, health knowledge, and/or health/psycho-social support (income, housing, and/or ADL); providing 600 clients with HIV+ peer support for care engagement and disease self-management; and providing Emotional Health & Wellness services (educational support, counseling, mental health and substance abuse (MHSA) treatment services) to 400 PLWHA/ family members through individual and group therapy with 80% improving coping skills to address HIV and MHSA issues.
